PELALAWAN R E G E N C Y

Pelalawan regency is one of the eight areas of regency and municipality newly formed in Riau province as the result of recent restructurization of administrative area. The area which formerly was under Kampar regency has capital city in Pangkalan Kerinci which is one of the industrial areas in Riau province.

Pelalawan regency is passed through by many rivers, including Kampar river which flows upstream from Kampar regency. One of the rare tourist attractions in this regency, which is very unique and rarely found in other places is the natural phenomenon named by the local community as BONO.

BONO (Hightide River Wave)
Bono is an enchanting but also astonishing natural phenomenon of. high tide water wave occurring on the Kampar river which roll upstreams, wave after wave with a very astonishing speed. In the great high tide season, the waves can reach the height of 4 to 6 meters stretching between both river banks.
Prior to the coming of Bono, thundering sound will be heard echoing from afar and get intensifying as it comes closer.
For the people living in Kuala Kampar, Bono is a phenomenon they have been familiar with, ever since the time of their early boyhood. No wonder then that young and old consider Bono as a thing to play with while testing their skill of riding their "Perahu" (canoe), not as a thing to escape from.
