D evelopment in industrial sector is currently directed toward establishing more derivative industries (downstream industries) which develop half-processed products to be those with more additional value. Those industries are to be concentrated in special areas reserved as industrial estates/parks which are equipped with facilities, such as telecommunication devices, electric supply, clean water supply, waste processing units and other supporting infrastructures, to maintain smooth operational activities of the industries.

Pilot Projects of industrial estate/park, which have been established in Riau Province and are considered very successful include: Batamindo Industrial Park, Sekupang Industrial Park, Bintan Industrial Estate den Lobam Industrial Estate.

Inspired by the successful pilot projects, the Provincial Administration of Riau has designed plans to open new industrial estates / parks to be offered for investors:
