BENGKALIS R E G E N C Y

The regency of Bengkalis is situated in the eastern coast of Sumatera some of its waterways is part of Malacca Straits. Nearly 95% of its topography are lowlands with tropical forests.

Bengkalis land is full of palm plantation areas and together with Siak Regency, widely known as one of the biggest natural oil producing areas in Indonesia, so that it is frequently dubbed as an area yielding oil both from the surface and the underground.

RUPAT ISLAND
Rupat island is one of the islands lying within the territory of Bengkalis Regency. According to the plan, Rupat will be one of the footing point for the future bridge connecting Indonesia and Malaysia which overpasses Malaca strait. No less interesting than other places in Riau, Rupat also keeps various potential in tourism, such as white sandy beaches, one is incredibly 11 km in lenght.
The island is also inhabited by an indigenous people, known as "Suku Akit" which their culture and unique natural life maintain by the local authority. The existence of the "Suku Akit" in their original habitat is another tourist attraction the island offers.
SEBANGA DURI
In Sebanga Duri, around 139 kms from Pekanbaru, there is an attractive tourism object which is the centre of elephant taming. Here the wild elephants from the Sumateran jungles which have been tamed are trained for various skills to entertain the visitors.
SELAT BARU BEACH
Located in the eastern coast of Bengkalis island, Pantai Selat Baru is a 4 km long beach featuring natural life of the local inhabitants in their traditional "kampongs". Interestingly nearby the beach there is a brook which by the local people is called "sungai Liong", alongside of which, there are some 3,000 fish breeding pools where "ikan kakap putih" are bred and cultivated. The process of breeding and drying the fish is something fun to see and know about.
