The place well known for its Chinese shrines and considered sacred by the Chinese was initially an old stilt settlement inhabited only by Bugis people. Today it is known more as China Town where many tourists from Singapore, mostly of Chinese origin, come for pilgrimage to the sacreddeemed shrines asking for blessing and good fortune.
