Muara Takus Temple

The temple complex located in Muara Takus village, 135 Ems from Pekanbaru, established not far from the edge of Kampar Kanan river. The temples structure was made of river rocks, sand and bricks circled by a wall of 74 x 74 m size while at its external part, it is also circled by soil wall of 1.5 km x 1.5 km size. These Muara Takus temples comprise of a number of buildings, i.e. Tua temple, Bungsu temple, the highest Stupa and Palangka.
Established gloriously in the middle of Sumateran jungle, the temples complex featuring the Buddhist religion inheritance apparently is keeping the undisclosed mystery, as the historical experts are still in different opinion on when is those temples actually established. Some stated around the 11th, 9th, 7th century, even some are of the opinion around the 4th century AD. Whichever is true, but it is clear that this temple is the treasure of the past time historical inheritance in Riau area and at the same time is the evidence that Buddhist religion once has developed in this area several centuries ago.
